ginseng

Tonic herb supplement

Ginseng is a plant whose forked root is prized in traditional medicine, especially in East Asia, as a tonic and stimulant.

The root is consumed whole, powdered, or steeped in tea, and appears in supplements marketed for energy, focus, and vitality: ginseng extract, I take ginseng capsules every morning.

Whether its benefits exceed placebo remains debated.
