trolley pole
Streetcar power arm
A trolley pole is the long hinged rod extending from the roof of a streetcar or trolley bus to connect with overhead electrical wires.
A small wheel or sliding shoe at the top maintains contact with the wire as the vehicle moves, drawing power to its motor.
The pole is spring-loaded to press upward against the wire: The conductor had to re-seat the trolley pole after it slipped off the line.
