transexual

Changed sex identity

Transexual is an older spelling of transsexual, referring to a person whose gender identity differs from the sex assigned at birth, especially one who has undergone medical transition.

The spelling with one *s* is less common and sometimes considered dated or nonstandard.

Many now prefer transgender as a broader, less medicalized term.
