Stonewall most often refers to the Stonewall Inn, a New York City gay bar, and the 1969 riots there that catalyzed the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement: the Stonewall uprising, post-Stonewall activism.
The name also belongs to Confederate general Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, who earned the nickname for standing firm in battle. (Lowercase stonewall means to obstruct or delay.)
