transcode
Change media encoding
Transcode means to convert digital media from one format or encoding to another.
Video editors transcode footage for compatibility with editing software; streaming services transcode files to deliver appropriate quality for different bandwidths.
The process typically involves decoding the source, then re-encoding it: I need to transcode these files before uploading.
