skip tracing

Hunting missing debtors

Skip tracing is the process of locating a person who has "skipped" town or otherwise become hard to find—typically someone evading debt collectors, legal summons, or law enforcement.

The term comes from "skip" meaning to depart hastily.

Skip tracers use public records, databases, and investigative techniques to track down their subjects: The bail bondsman hired a skip tracer to find the fugitive.
