leaf spring

Curved suspension band

A leaf spring is a suspension component made of curved metal strips (leaves) stacked and clamped together, absorbing shock by flexing under load.

Common in trucks and older vehicles, leaf springs mount between the axle and frame: The truck's rear leaf springs sagged under the heavy load.

Simpler and more durable than coil springs, though they provide a rougher ride.
