topping lift
Raises the boom
A topping lift is a line on a sailboat that runs from the end of the boom up to the mast, supporting the boom's weight when the sail is lowered or reefed.
Without it, the boom would drop onto the deck or cockpit.
Ease the topping lift before raising the main.
