furling
Winding up canvas
Furling is rolling or folding something up tightly, typically a sail, flag, or umbrella.
A sailor furls the mainsail after anchoring; you furl an umbrella before entering a building.
The opposite is unfurling.
The crew furled the sails as the storm approached.
