togas

Draped ancient garments

Togas is the plural of toga, the draped outer garment worn by citizens of ancient Rome.

The toga was a marker of Roman citizenship and status—different styles indicated social rank.

Today, togas appear mainly at costume parties, where bedsheets serve as approximations: a toga party at the frat house.
