stola
Ancient Roman dress
A stola is the long, pleated outer garment worn by married women in ancient Rome, draped over the tunica and belted at the waist.
It signified respectability and citizen status—only freeborn Roman matrons were entitled to wear it.
The garment extended to the ankles and often featured decorative borders.
