tire iron

Roadside lug remover

A tire iron is a metal bar used to pry a tire off its wheel rim, or more commonly, a lug wrench—the tool for loosening and tightening the nuts that hold a wheel in place.

Most vehicles carry one with the spare tire.

Tire irons also serve as improvised weapons: He kept a tire iron under the seat.
