vice grips
Adjustable clamping tool
Vice grips are locking pliers with an adjustable jaw that clamps onto objects and stays locked until released by a lever.
The tool functions as a portable vise, gripping pipes, bolts, or sheet metal with sustained pressure while freeing both hands: I clamped the vice grips onto the stripped bolt and finally got it loose.
Also spelled vise grips.
Vice-Grip is a brand name that has become generic.
