jimmy

Force a lock

A jimmy is a short crowbar used to pry things open, especially by burglars forcing windows or doors.

As a verb, to jimmy is to force open with such a tool: Someone jimmied the lock while we were away.

The word suggests illicit entry more than legitimate repair work. (Capitalized Jimmy is a given name.)
