ticket inspector
Transit pass verifier
A ticket inspector is an employee who checks passengers' tickets on public transportation—trains, buses, or trams—to verify they've paid the proper fare.
Unlike conductors who may sell tickets, inspectors typically board to catch fare evaders: The ticket inspector asked to see everyone's pass.
Also called a fare inspector or ticket checker.
