tambour

Cylindrical drum type

A tambour is a drum, especially a small one, or a circular frame for holding fabric taut during embroidery.

The word extends to architectural features resembling drums—the cylindrical stone sections of a column, or the circular wall supporting a dome.

A tambour door rolls up or slides horizontally on a flexible track, its slats moving like a segmented drum surface: The tambour desk had a curved lid that rolled back to reveal compartments.
