talkie

Film with dialogue

A talkie is a movie with synchronized spoken dialogue, as opposed to a silent film.

The term dates from the late 1920s when sound technology revolutionized cinema: The Jazz Singer was among the first talkies.

Now largely historical, since virtually all films have sound.
