nerve root
Spine's neural exit
A nerve root is the initial segment of a nerve where it emerges from the spinal cord, before branching into peripheral nerves.
Nerve roots carry signals between the brain and body; when compressed or inflamed, they cause radiating pain, numbness, or weakness: The MRI showed a pinched nerve root at L5.
Sciatica commonly results from nerve root compression.
