sulci

Cortical surface channels

Sulci is the plural of sulcus, a groove or furrow—most often encountered in anatomy.

The brain's surface is folded into ridges (gyri) separated by sulci, giving it the characteristic wrinkled appearance: The surgeon navigated between the sulci to reach the tumor.

Similar grooves appear in other organs and structures.
