subclavian artery

Under-collarbone blood passage

The subclavian artery is a major blood vessel that supplies blood to the arms, neck, and brain.

There are two—one on each side of the body, running beneath the clavicle (collarbone), which gives the artery its name.

The subclavian arteries branch off differently: the left directly from the aorta, the right from the brachiocephalic trunk.
