stovepipe
Tall cylindrical hat
A stovepipe is a metal pipe that carries smoke and gases from a stove to a chimney.
The tall, cylindrical shape gives us the stovepipe hat—the formal top hat associated with Abraham Lincoln.
In government and military jargon, stovepipe describes information channels that run vertically without connecting horizontally: Intelligence was stovepiped directly to the White House, bypassing normal review.
