chimney liner

Inner flue tube

A chimney liner is a protective layer installed inside a chimney flue, typically made of clay tile, metal, or cast-in-place cement.

The liner contains combustion gases, protects the chimney walls from heat and corrosion, and improves draft efficiency.

Older chimneys often lack liners or have deteriorated ones that need replacement: The inspector said we need a new chimney liner before using the fireplace.
