steel-string guitar
Folk musician's instrument
A steel-string guitar is an acoustic guitar strung with steel strings rather than the nylon strings used on classical guitars.
The steel strings produce a brighter, louder tone suited to folk, country, blues, and rock music.
Most acoustic guitars sold in America are steel-string instruments: She learned on her father's old steel-string guitar.
