spheroids
Slightly squashed balls
Spheroids are objects shaped approximately like a sphere—three-dimensional and rounded, but not perfectly spherical.
The term appears in geometry for ellipsoids of revolution (shapes created by rotating an ellipse around one of its axes) and in biology for rounded cell clusters: The researchers grew tumor spheroids in the lab.
Earth itself is technically an oblate spheroid, slightly flattened at the poles.
