Archimedes screw
Ancient water lifter
An Archimedes screw is a device for raising water, consisting of a spiral blade wrapped around a cylinder set at an angle.
As the screw rotates, water trapped between the blades is pushed upward.
Ancient in origin but still used for irrigation and drainage: The Archimedes screw lifted water from the river to the fields.
