blueshift
Light waves shortening
Blueshift is the shortening of wavelengths in light or other radiation from an object moving toward the observer.
The effect compresses waves, shifting them toward the blue end of the spectrum.
It's the opposite of redshift.
Astronomers use blueshift to measure how fast celestial objects approach Earth: The galaxy's blueshift indicates it's moving toward us at tremendous speed.
