densitometer
Light transmission gauge
A densitometer is an instrument that measures optical density—how much light passes through or reflects from a surface.
In photography and printing, densitometers gauge the darkness of developed film or printed images: The technician used a densitometer to check the ink coverage.
Scientific applications include measuring bacterial growth in liquid cultures or analyzing X-ray films.
