shoveling
Clearing the driveway
Shoveling is the act of moving material—snow, dirt, coal, gravel—with a shovel.
The word implies repeated lifting and throwing motions: I spent the morning shoveling the driveway.
Figuratively, to shovel something is to move it in large, hasty quantities: shoveling food into his mouth, shoveling money into a failing project.
Also spelled shovelling.
