sea anchor
Floating drag device
A sea anchor is a device deployed from a boat to slow drift and maintain orientation in heavy weather.
Unlike a regular anchor, it doesn't reach the bottom—it's a fabric cone or parachute that creates drag in the water, keeping the bow pointed into waves.
We deployed the sea anchor and rode out the storm.
