shakoes

Tall military caps

Shakoes is the plural of shako, a tall cylindrical military hat with a visor and plume, worn especially by cavalry and infantry in the 18th and 19th centuries.

The distinctive headgear remains in ceremonial use: The cadets adjusted their shakoes before the parade.

Also spelled shakos.
