bluecoat
Police officer, informally
A bluecoat is someone who wears a blue uniform as part of their occupation, most often a police officer.
The term dates from when blue uniforms distinguished certain roles—British charity school students, Union soldiers in the American Civil War, and later urban police forces.
Now it typically appears in historical contexts or as mild slang for cops.
