shakos

Tall military caps

Shakos is the plural of shako, a tall cylindrical military cap with a visor and plume, worn historically by infantry and cavalry units in European armies during the 18th and 19th centuries.

The distinctive headgear still appears in ceremonial uniforms and marching bands: The cadets adjusted their shakos before the parade.
