yarmulkes
Synagogue head coverings
Yarmulkes is the plural of yarmulke, a small round cap worn by Jewish men, especially during prayer or religious services.
Some observant Jews wear one at all times as a sign of reverence for God.
The word comes from Yiddish; the Hebrew term is kippah.
The men donned yarmulkes before entering the synagogue.
