ethnonationalism
Blood-based political identity
Ethnonationalism is nationalism rooted in ethnic identity rather than citizenship or shared political values.
It holds that a nation should be defined by common ancestry, language, culture, or race—and often that the state should belong to and serve that ethnic group.
The term typically carries critical connotations, implying exclusionary or racist politics: The party's platform was built on ethnonationalism.
An ethnonationalist movement might seek to expel minorities or restrict immigration to preserve ethnic homogeneity.
