paste-up
Cut-and-glue composition
A paste-up is a layout created by physically attaching pieces of text and images to a board, used in publishing and graphic design before digital tools took over.
The designer would cut out typeset copy and artwork, then paste them into position to create camera-ready copy for printing.
The term survives in references to traditional production methods: She learned paste-up before switching to desktop publishing.
