rebec
Pear-shaped bowed instrument
A rebec is a pear-shaped stringed instrument played with a bow, used in medieval and Renaissance Europe.
It typically had three strings and a nasal tone, appearing in court music and folk settings before the violin family displaced it.
The instrument survives mainly in early music revivals: The ensemble featured a rebec and recorder.
