monophonic

Not in stereo

Monophonic describes sound reproduced through a single audio channel, as opposed to stereo's two or surround sound's many.

Older recordings and broadcasts were monophonic by necessity: The original mono mix sounds flat compared to the stereo remaster.

In music, monophonic also describes a melody played one note at a time, without harmony or chords.
