rat-tail
Skinny trailing lock
A rat-tail is a thin braid of hair hanging down the back of the neck, often from an otherwise short haircut—resembling a rat's tail.
The style was popular in the 1980s and carries working-class or unfashionable connotations.
Rat-tail also describes anything long, thin, and tapered: a rat-tail file, a rat-tail comb.
As an adjective, it modifies tools or objects with this shape: a rat-tail tang on a knife blade.
