flat file
Simple data storage
A flat file is a database or data storage format where all information is kept in a single table or text file, with no relationships between records.
Unlike relational databases with multiple linked tables, flat files store everything in one place—often as comma-separated or tab-delimited rows: We exported the customer list as a flat file.
The term also refers to a thin, rectangular metal file used for smoothing surfaces.
