afro
Voluminous natural style
An afro is a hairstyle in which naturally curly hair—especially Black hair—is grown out and shaped into a rounded mass.
The style became a cultural and political statement during the Black Power movement of the 1960s and 70s, signaling pride in natural Black features: She's been growing out her afro for two years.
The word also functions as an adjective: afro hairstyle, afro pick.
