plaiting

Interlacing hair sections

Plaiting is the act of braiding or interweaving strands—of hair, rope, straw, or other flexible materials—into a single length.

The technique crosses strands over and under each other in a regular pattern: She spent the morning plaiting her daughter's hair.

Plaited straw becomes baskets or hats; plaited leather becomes belts or reins.
