intake stroke
Piston draws downward
The intake stroke is one of four phases in a four-stroke internal combustion engine, during which the piston moves downward while the intake valve opens, drawing air or an air-fuel mixture into the cylinder.
It precedes compression, combustion, and exhaust: The engine misfired during the intake stroke.
