exhaust stroke
Cylinder's evacuation cycle
The exhaust stroke is the final phase in a four-stroke engine cycle, when the piston moves upward to push spent gases out through the open exhaust valve.
It follows the power stroke and precedes the intake stroke of the next cycle.
The exhaust stroke expels combustion byproducts before fresh fuel enters the cylinder.
