progesterone
Luteal phase steroid
Progesterone is a hormone produced primarily in the ovaries that prepares the uterus for pregnancy and maintains early pregnancy.
It plays a central role in the menstrual cycle, rising after ovulation to thicken the uterine lining.
Synthetic forms appear in birth control pills and hormone replacement therapy: Her doctor prescribed progesterone to regulate her cycles.
