mifepristone
Pregnancy termination drug
Mifepristone is a medication that blocks progesterone, a hormone necessary to sustain pregnancy.
It is used in combination with misoprostol to induce abortion in early pregnancy, and separately to manage miscarriage or certain tumors.
Originally marketed as RU-486, mifepristone has been at the center of legal and political battles over abortion access since its approval.
