predicates

Statements about subjects

Predicates function as the part of a sentence that says something about the subject—typically a verb and whatever follows it.

In The dog barked loudly, "barked loudly" is the predicate.

The verb predicate means to base something on a condition or assumption: The plan is predicated on continued funding.

In logic, a predicate is what's asserted about a subject—the property or relation being claimed.
