paste-ups
Pre-digital page layouts
Paste-ups are layouts created by physically cutting and pasting printed elements—text, images, headlines—onto boards to prepare camera-ready artwork for printing.
Before digital design software, graphic designers and newspaper production staff assembled pages this way: The art department was busy with paste-ups for tomorrow's edition.
The term now sounds dated, though the technique survives in collage art and zine-making.
