panic room

Fortified home refuge

A panic room is a fortified space within a building—typically a home—designed as a refuge during a break-in, home invasion, or other emergency.

Also called a safe room.

The term gained currency after the 2002 thriller film of that name: The house came with a panic room off the master bedroom.
