danger zone
Perilous territory ahead
A danger zone is an area where safety is at risk—where you might get hurt, killed, or exposed to hazards: The construction site is a danger zone.
The term extends to any situation where trouble looms: Skipping meals puts your blood sugar in the danger zone.
In cooking, the danger zone is the temperature range (roughly 40–140°F) where bacteria multiply rapidly in food.
