basement stairs
Steps going down
Basement stairs are the staircase leading to a basement, typically steeper and narrower than main staircases.
The phrase often carries connotations of danger or creepiness—basements being dark, unfinished spaces: I'm not going down those basement stairs alone.
In horror films and childhood fears, basement stairs are where bad things wait.
